Privacy at Featured News
What this site collects, why, and how to reach us. This page covers news.featured.com; Featured’s full privacy policy covers the rest.
Readers
Reading Featured News needs no account. This site sets no advertising or analytics cookies for readers. Like any website, our hosting provider processes standard request data, such as IP address and browser user agent, to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse.
Publisher Accounts
Publisher accounts are set up by Featured. For each account we keep the email address, name, publication name and website it was set up with. Signing in works by a one-time link sent to that email address, which expires after 15 minutes. A session cookie keeps you signed in, and the session record stores the IP address and browser user agent it was created from.
Republication Tracking
Stories taken from the publisher hub carry a token and a 1×1 tracking image. When a page that runs the story loads the image, we record which publisher and story it belongs to, the address of the page it appeared on, and a view count; requests that identify as bots or link previews are not counted. The image sets no cookies, and we do not store the reader’s IP address with the view. To confirm that the page is a real article on the publisher’s site, we may check its address with an automated classifier. Experts quoted in a story see the publications that ran it in their report.
Feeds and Alerts
Private RSS feeds use a secret address, and we record when each feed was last fetched. Alerts go to the email address on the account or to the Slack channel a publisher connects, for the beats and tags they choose; for Slack we keep the workspace installation and channel. When a story a publisher ran is corrected, we tell them in their hub and by email.
API and MCP Server
The public JSON API and MCP server need no account and return only published stories. Requests are rate limited per IP address by our hosting firewall. See Developers.
Your Choices
To change or delete a publisher account, or to ask what we hold about you, email news@featured.com. Experts can ask for a published perspective to be withdrawn the same way.
